A trip to San Francisco would not be complete without journeying to Haight Ashbury. Journey being the operative word there. If anyone tells you that it looks like an easy walk from Alamo Square to Haight Ashbury, please assure them that it isn’t. Oh, on a map it looks so doable, especially for my husband and I who love to walk. But what the map doesn’t show you are the hills. Oh. My. Gosh. The hills. There were times when I would look at the next hill coming up and practically want to weep. We persevered though and made it. There wasn’t really much to see, other than the sign, or perhaps we were just too exhausted to contemplate our surroundings!

No you are right not much to do there, but in the 60’s and 70’s it was really ratty in appearance and they have fixed it up quite a bit from what it use to be in it’s hay day. Had a smile at the hills, we would do the 7 mile hill walk every year in SF. It was a race for some but a walk for others, they would have stopping places for the view and also for snacks. It was a lot of fun but it was very challenging also. San Francisco is a small city you just have to know where you can avoid the hills and get around. There are so many wonderful places to eat on those streets but you have to know where they are.
